Tier 1 Shotgun (Fundamentals)

Course Length: 1 day or 2 day options.

Course Description: Tier 1 Shotgun is specifically designed for the new shotgun owner who would potentially like to explore the shotgun as a defense tool, and eventually continue to the Tier 1 Tactics – Tier 2 Shotgun course (Defensive)

This course is not geared towards a shotgun’s application for shots, hunting, skeet or trap shooting.

This introductory course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills pessary to safely handle, load, fire and unload a pump action or semi-automatic shotgun. Students will be guided through various shotguns and equipment options when selecting one for defensive purposes. Time is spend both in the classroom and on the range in a comfortable learning environment. Students will also be guided through shotgun manipulation drills and range exercises designed to increase personal comfort level and develop a solid skill base. Learn why the shotgun is such an extremely versatile and effective tool. With the paper fundamentals the shotgun’s recoil will be much more manageable and the shotgun will become much more enjoyable to shoot.

  • Immediate and remedial action for malfunctions
  • Slug changeovers
  • Basic movement
  • On cover/off cover shooting
  • Third party defense

Mandatory Equipment:

  • Shotgun with sling
  • Iron sights or optics (if used)
  • 300 Rounds Bird shot
  • 100  Rounds Buck shot
  • 50 Rounds Slugs
  • Ear and eye protection
  • Hat
  • Shell caddy if used

Optional (recommended) Equipment:

  • Gloves
  • Jacket (Weather and season dependent)
  • Sunblock
  • Hydration
  • Field cleaning kit
  • Basic maintenance tools
  • Knee and elbow pads

Class size: Minimum of 6, no more than 12 students
